About the Bitcube

The Bitcube is Power Mining's own small home miner: a 74 mm cube with a 2.73-inch touchscreen, built on Canaan's Avalon A3197 chip. Power Mining states up to 777 GH/s in Turbo mode and 550 GH/s in Quiet mode, at about 20–25 W from the wall over USB-C. It's open source, runs on Wi-Fi, and can solo or pool mine.

Best for: Someone who wants a cute, quiet solo lottery miner for a desk or shelf, with nothing to build.

Questions

What is the cheapest Bitcube right now?

Nothing is in stock at the shops we check right now. The lowest listed price is $109.09 at Power Mining, which is pre-order.

Is the Bitcube in stock?

At the last check: Power Mining: pre-order. Stock changes fast, so confirm on the shop's page.

How much electricity does the Bitcube use?

Sellers state about 25 W, roughly 219 kWh a year if it runs 24/7. At $0.10, $0.15 and $0.25 per kWh that's about $22, $33 and $55 a year.

How much heat does the Bitcube give off?

Almost all the electricity a miner uses comes out as heat, like an electric space heater. At full power that's about 25 W, or roughly 85 BTU per hour. How heater miners work.

Will the Bitcube pay for its electricity?

Usually not all of it, and nothing is guaranteed. Pointed at a mining pool, it earns small, steady amounts of bitcoin that can offset part of the power bill. How much depends on Bitcoin's price, the network's total hashrate and your electricity rate, and all three change. Pointed at solo mining, it's a lottery ticket for a whole block. Solo vs pool, explained.
