Solo vs pool, in 30 seconds

Solo is a lottery ticket. Your miner tries to win a whole Bitcoin block on its own. If it wins, it gets the full reward. Most of the time it gets nothing, and for a home miner the odds are tiny.

Pool is a small, steady trickle. Thousands of miners share the work and split each reward, so you get small, regular payouts. They go up and down with Bitcoin's price and the network, so nobody can promise an amount.

Same miner, either way: it's just a setting. Small Bitaxes usually go solo for the long shot. Heater miners usually go pool.
