Room heat calculator

Type your room size. See how much heat it needs and which miners can warm it while they mine.

Your room needs about 1,500 W

That's about 5,118 BTU/h of heat to keep it warm on a cold day.

Rule of thumb: about 10 W per sq ft for an average room with an 8 ft ceiling (7 W if it holds heat well, 13 W if it's drafty). An estimate, not a heating survey.

Questions

How much heat does a room need?

A common rule of thumb for electric heat is about 10 watts per square foot for an average room with an 8-foot ceiling. Use less for a well-sealed room and more for a drafty one. It's a starting point, not an exact number.

Does a miner heat as well as a space heater?

Yes, watt for watt. Nearly all the electricity a miner uses comes out as heat, like an electric space heater.

What if the miner gives more heat than my room needs?

Most heater miners have lower power modes or a thermostat, so they can run cooler. At full power a big one will overheat a small room.

What does 1,500 W mean for my outlet?

A US 15 A, 120 V circuit should carry about 1,440 W continuously. Put big units on their own circuit and follow the maker's guidance.
