About the Heatbit Bitwater

The Heatbit Bitwater is a water heater element with a Bitcoin miner built in. It screws into the lower element port of a regular electric tank water heater and heats your water with mining chips instead of a resistance wire. Heatbit states 20 BM1370 chips, up to 34 TH/s and up to 600 W, from 12 J/TH. The water cools the chips, so there are no fans.

Best for: A homeowner with an electric tank water heater who pays for hot water anyway and wants that heat to mine Bitcoin, with no noise and no box in the room.

Check before you buy
  • It's a pre-order (Genesis batch at $899). Heatbit says later batches cost up to $1,299 and it ships Q1 2027 to the US and Canada.
  • It only fits standard electric tank heaters (30 to 80 gallons, 1-inch NPSM element port). Not gas or heat-pump water heaters.
  • It replaces the lower element; the upper element and thermostat stay. Heatbit says install takes 30 to 45 minutes, and the controller plugs into a normal outlet.
  • It only mines while your tank needs heat, so real hashrate depends on how much hot water you use.
  • Mines solo to your own address by default, or to any pool. 1-year warranty.

Maker-stated up to 34 TH/s and up to 600 W, from 12 J/TH; replaces the lower element of a 30-80 gal electric water heater. Running cost assumes full power 24/7; heater miners usually cycle with a thermostat, so real use is often lower.

Will the Heatbit Bitwater pay for its electricity?

Usually not all of it, and nothing is guaranteed. Pointed at a mining pool, it earns small, steady amounts of bitcoin that can offset part of the power bill. How much depends on Bitcoin's price, the network's total hashrate and your electricity rate, and all three change. Pointed at solo mining, it's a lottery ticket for a whole block. Solo vs pool, explained.
