How loud are home Bitcoin miners?
Noise is the number-one question when a miner will sit in a bedroom or office. Here's every miner we track that publishes a noise figure, quietest first, with today's price and a link to buy.
1. The short answer
- Want silent: fanless heaters like the Heatbit Canvas or Bitwater (maker-stated: no fans).
- Want a quiet desk miner: look near 30–40 dB stated — for example the BitForge Nano (~29 dB), Gamma Hex (~30 dB, liquid-cooled), Hammer BC04 (32–36 dB) or Avalon Nano 3S (33–40 dB).
- Room heater class: often 45–60 dB stated at full power; check for a night or eco mode.
- No published dB? We don't invent one. Open-board Bitaxe units are usually quiet in practice, but they aren't ranked here without a shop figure. See quietest miners for the ranked shortlist.

dB figures are the makers' or sellers' own numbers, not our lab measurements. Sorting uses the highest stated figure for that model (or 0 for fanless). Prices are the cheapest in-stock listing we track right now, before shipping and tax.
3. What the numbers mean in a room
- ~0 / fanless: no fan whir — you may still hear a faint pump or nothing at all.
- ~30 dB: a whisper; fine for most bedrooms and offices.
- ~40 dB: a quiet library; many people leave this on a desk all day.
- ~50 dB: a normal conversation; better in a living room, garage or dedicated mining spot.
- ~60 dB: a loud conversation or dishwasher; plan for a utility room or put distance and a door between you and the miner.
Distance matters: moving a few feet away drops what you hear a lot. So does closing a door, and so does running a lower power mode.
Questions
Are these our measurements?
No. Every dB figure is what the maker or a shop states on its own page. We label the source. Rooms, distance and power mode change what you hear.
How loud is 40 dB?
About a quiet library or a soft hum. Many people are fine with that on a desk. Under about 35 dB is usually comfortable in a bedroom; over about 50 dB is more of a garage or utility-room sound.
Are Bitaxe Gamma boards quiet?
They're small with one little fan, so most owners find them fairly quiet, but shops don't publish a dB figure for the single-chip Gamma. We only list miners with a published number. See also the quietest miners list.
Does a lower power mode make a miner quieter?
Usually yes. Fans spin slower when the chips run cooler. Heater miners often have a night or eco mode that trades hashrate for less noise.
What if I need a silent room?
Pick a fanless design (Heatbit Canvas or Bitwater state no fans) or a liquid-cooled board with a published low figure, like the Gamma Hex at about 30 dB stated. Or put any miner in another room.
